Note Many Japanese authors had described that Sium suave Walter var. nipponicum (Maximovicz) H. Hara (syn. Sium nipponicum Maximovicz) has 7-9 leaflets and Sium suave Walter var. suave has 7-17 leaflets. However, I confirmed Sium suave var. nipponicum which has over 10 leaflets in the Ohsaka City University Botanical Garden. The observed plant has been identified as Sium suave Walter var. nipponicum (Maximovicz) H. Hara and cultivated by the Ohsaka City University Botanical Garden. Therefore, there is no obvious difference between Sium suave var. nipponicum and Sium suave var. suave. I think that Sium suave var. nipponicum is a synonym of Sium suave var. suave.
